What's new in CHERNO

Every new feature and fix, newest version first. CHERNO updates itself when it starts.

Download CHERNO

Version 0.9.75

  • New: favourites and history follow your Discord account to every PC where you sign in to CHERNO.
  • New: CHERNO tells you 24 hours and 1 hour before a favourite server wipes, if its owner announced the date. Can be switched off in the settings.
  • New: if CHERNO closed unexpectedly, it offers to send a diagnostic report on the next start.
  • Downloads now come from download.cherno-hub.com.

Version 0.9.74

  • New: CHERNO has its own website address, cherno-hub.com. Links in the app and the Discord status now point there; the old address forwards automatically.

Version 0.9.73

  • New: share a server on the CHERNO Discord with one click from its details. It shows up in #shared-servers with map, players and address.
  • The save bar in the settings only appears when a text field or selection has unsaved changes; switches save instantly.

Version 0.9.72

  • Fixed: switches in the settings now save instantly. "Send diagnostics automatically" no longer turns itself off after restarting the app.

Version 0.9.71

  • New: the diagnostic code in the settings has a Copy button, so you can paste it straight into a support ticket on our Discord.

Version 0.9.70

  • New ping display: pin-sharp with signal bars, a trend line, jitter and packet loss. In the options the ping can now be switched on and off separately for the app and the game.

Version 0.9.69

  • The server list scrolls much more smoothly, especially with a background image. The start screen stays a few seconds longer.
  • New: the ping of your internet connection shows at the top of the app and in the top right corner in game, so you see right away when your connection is struggling.

Version 0.9.68

  • Faster start: the server list from last time appears instantly and refreshes in the background. Opening the app shows a CHERNO start screen instead of an empty window.

Version 0.9.67

  • The background image now sits centred in the content area instead of slightly shifted up and to the left.

Version 0.9.66

  • The logo in the top left takes on your accent colour again. With red it keeps its original look.

Version 0.9.65

  • New CHERNO logo in the app, in the taskbar and in the installer.
  • The installer starts on its own, shows only the loading bar, creates the desktop shortcut and opens CHERNO automatically afterwards.

Version 0.9.64

  • New installer: CHERNO now installs in its own window in the CHERNO look, with a loading bar that shows the real progress.

Version 0.9.63

  • Joining via friends, direct connect, history or double click now always checks the server's mods first. If something is missing, the download starts right away.

Version 0.9.62

  • In the sign-in window you can now choose: sign in right there or confirm in the Discord app.
  • After your first sign-in the CHERNO bot sends you a thank-you message as a Discord DM.

Version 0.9.61

  • New slider in the options: make the animated background effects weaker or stronger.
  • Discord sign-in now opens in its own CHERNO window instead of the browser and also works with a VPN or proxy. Instead of "fetch failed" you get a clear message.

Version 0.9.60

  • New default background image. In the options you can swap it for your own or turn it off.
  • The accent colours are more muted and match the new background: blood red, rust, brass, olive, night blue, plum and gunmetal.
  • Your Discord profile now shows the CHERNO logo and how many people are using CHERNO right now. Its second button leads to the CHERNO website.
  • The Discord link leads to the CHERNO server again. The old invite had expired.

Version 0.9.59

  • The top bar now shows how many people have CHERNO open right now. Counted anonymously, with a random ID per install.
  • For screen readers: the map picker now announces the chosen value, the filters say whether they are on, and the sidebar tells you which page you are on.

Version 0.9.58

  • Accent-coloured text was too dark on the dark background — the active menu item was the least readable text in the app. It, high ping values and the sort arrow now use the light accent. Dimmed text was lightened too.
  • Three buttons were too shallow to hit reliably: the sortable column headers, Start Steam in the header, and the mod ID you copy. All three are now at least 24 pixels tall.

Version 0.9.57

  • Deleting now checks whether Steam really lifted the subscription. CHERNO used to just report success — if the subscription stood, Steam fetched the mod right back after the delete.

Version 0.9.56

  • The trash button now really deletes. Unsubscribing alone was not enough — Steam left the folders behind, the row stayed and the disk space stayed used. CHERNO now clears up itself when Steam does not.

Version 0.9.55

  • A mod is downloading and you want to join another server? Its mods now line up and start on their own as soon as the running download is through.

Version 0.9.54

  • White text on the coloured buttons was not readable enough on any of the seven accents. The surfaces are now dark enough to meet the standard; red loses 8 percent of its brightness.
  • Buttons used to get lighter on hover, and harder to read with it. They now get darker instead, at the exact moment you are looking.
  • The trash button deleted nothing visible: it reported success even when Steam was unreachable. It now asks first, waits until Steam really clears the files, and says what came of it.
  • No text could be selected anywhere in the app. Mod IDs, server names and addresses can now be copied, and clicking a Workshop ID puts it straight on the clipboard.
  • On the mods page the fields are labelled: one downloads a new mod, the other searches what you have. The tools now line up with the download field instead of jutting into the downloads box.

Version 0.9.53

  • New filter for servers in demand: not the ones with the most players, but the ones people are queuing for. Fill rate, size and queue count together, ratings from three votes up.
  • New region filter: Europe, Russia, North and South America, Oceania, Asia. Read from the server's name, and the filter says outright that servers without a stated region are hidden.
  • Search and filters are now per page. A search in the browser no longer narrows your favourites as well, where it usually hid everything.

Version 0.9.52

  • Dropdowns could run off the screen when there was little room below the button. They now fit themselves to the space available and always stay visible.
  • The notification area next to the clock showed an empty grey square instead of the icon. The image sat in a folder the installer never ships.

Version 0.9.51

  • The button for downloading a mod again looked like a pencil and reported nothing back. Now it is an arrow, and the row says whether Steam took the request.
  • The mod page tools sat in four left-packed rows. Now two rows across the full width: what does something on top, what narrows the list below.

Version 0.9.50

  • Updates now install silently and the app comes back on its own afterwards. Before, the full installer wizard ran and CHERNO stayed closed after it.

Version 0.9.49

  • Every button now answers to being pressed, and all transitions run on their own curves instead of defaults.
  • Type follows one scale again: four sizes instead of nine, and nothing below 11 px.
  • In the server panel each section sits on its own surface, and the list shows outlines while loading instead of a spinner.
  • Every control is now at least 24 by 24 pixels; eight of them used to be hard to hit.

Version 0.9.48

  • The server list refreshes about a third faster — CHERNO now remembers how to address a server instead of asking twice every time.
  • A brief network hiccup used to throw away every mod size. Now there is one retry, and a failed batch no longer takes the others with it.

Version 0.9.47

  • The player list showed nothing but dashes on every server — DayZ gives out no names. Instead of ninety empty rows it now shows how long people have been playing.

Version 0.9.46

  • Options are sorted into categories — each one fits on a single screen now, and the About box is finally readable.
  • The crosshair page folds up: the preview stays put and each closed section shows what it is set to. No more scrolling.
  • More filters: 1PP or 3PP, vanilla or modded, BattlEye on or off, and verified servers only.
  • Every mod can be repaired on its own — and the repair downloaded nothing at all before, which is fixed.
  • The history can be cleared, single entries removed, and the Steam name now follows the account you are signed in as.

Version 0.9.45

  • The server list now merges both sources — with a Steam key set, thousands of ordinary servers were missing before.
  • A warning on servers that carry another server's name and are absent from the public directory — the usual way players get intercepted.
  • Repeated listings are folded together: 12 % of the list was one server announced on several ports.
  • Dropdowns sit above the list again, and the download size only counts once the mods have been checked.

Version 0.9.44

  • Dropdowns are drawn by CHERNO now — Windows used to open a white system menu in the middle of the dark interface.
  • The “Rating” column only appears once enough servers actually have one, instead of showing a row of dashes.
  • In chat, the link to the original text sat against the last word — and appeared on messages that were never translated.
  • Map names are tidied up: “dz_map” becomes “Dz Map”, “chernarus2035” becomes “Chernarus 2035”.

Version 0.9.43

  • Chat is translated into your language automatically — the original is one click away.
  • Pictures and emoji in chat: type Discord shortcodes like :skull:, paste screenshots with Ctrl+V.
  • A channel directory shows where people are talking, instead of guessing at a server name.
  • Messages are deleted automatically after two weeks.

Version 0.9.42

  • New "Crosshair" tab: your own crosshair over the game — shape, colour and size all yours.
  • The server list now says next to each name how fresh the server is, or how many mods it loads.
  • Interface reworked: larger type, a calmer list, and no more duplicate buttons.

Version 0.9.41

  • "Check and repair mods": every mod is weighed against the byte count Steam recorded, so a half-downloaded one is named instead of silently breaking DayZ. Links are rebuilt too.
  • The mod list marks which mods your last server actually loads, and can show only those.

Version 0.9.40

  • About 1,500 operators write their wipe date into the server name. CHERNO now reads it — and says plainly that it comes from the name.
  • New filter "Freshly wiped": servers that started over in the last week, where everyone is on equal footing.

Version 0.9.39

  • New "Missing" column: sort the whole list by how much you would still have to download.
  • Clicking Ping now puts the fastest servers first instead of the slowest.

Version 0.9.38

  • Server details now count down to the next restart, once the operator has published the schedule.
  • Operators can post a short announcement and their restart times — new fields in the operator area.

Version 0.9.37

  • Download figures now come from Steam itself — exact bytes and a real progress bar instead of a folder measurement.
  • Cancelling a download now checks Steam's own state instead of a folder, and reclaims the half-downloaded gigabytes straight away.
  • Fixed two faults that had silently disabled every Steam progress reading, including the one in the install dialog.

Version 0.9.36

  • Full server? Have CHERNO watch it and tell you the moment a slot opens — it keeps working from the tray.
  • Passwords for locked servers can be remembered, encrypted by Windows. Typed once, never again.

Version 0.9.35

  • New filter "Ready to join": only servers whose every mod you already have. No wait, no download.
  • Each mod now shows how many servers still run it — one click lists them.
  • Unused mods are checked against all 17,000 servers in the directory, not just your saved ones.
  • Server details say whether a server is growing or shrinking, and when it is fullest.
  • Optional notice when a Steam friend joins a server.

Version 0.9.34

  • The mod list only builds the rows on screen. With a few hundred mods, typing in the filter was taking a quarter of a second per key.
  • Column headings line up with the rows again, and the mod list no longer collapses on a short window.
  • In the tray the app now stops pinging servers, asking Steam about friends and scanning download folders.

Version 0.9.33

  • Cancelling a download actually works now, and says so when Steam refuses instead of pretending it succeeded.
  • Download sizes show a total and a percentage again, plus the measured speed.
  • New in mod management: find and delete the staging folders Steam leaves behind — often tens of gigabytes.
  • With a light background image the mod and server names had vanished into it. Rows now carry their own ground.

Version 0.9.32

  • Every mod was listed twice when Steam reported its folder in different capitalisation — the list, the total size and the downloads are correct again.
  • The download panel no longer shows folders Steam left behind, and reports the measured speed instead of a percentage it cannot know.
  • Your own background image is visible again.

Version 0.9.31

  • Steam friends in game now appear above your favourites, with a join button.

Version 0.9.30

  • Server operators can verify themselves and publish a description, rules and their next wipe.
  • Announced wipes for your favourites now appear above the list.

Version 0.9.29

  • Server details now show when a server is actually busy, built from what the community records.

Version 0.9.28

  • See live which mods Steam is downloading, and cancel any of them without leaving the app.

Version 0.9.27

  • The install button now says how big the download will be before you press it.

Version 0.9.26

  • The accent colour now covers the logo too, and every colour is more vivid.
  • Custom backgrounds are readable: frosted panels, a stronger default dim and a preview in the options.

Version 0.9.25

  • The options page is reorganised: grouped sections, two columns, switches, and a Save button that is always in reach.

Version 0.9.24

  • DayZ is now started through BattlEye directly — it joins the server instead of stopping at the DayZ launcher.
  • If BattlEye is missing, CHERNO says so and can install it for you.

Version 0.9.23

  • Fixed for real: DayZ now starts with BattlEye, so servers stop kicking you.
  • If BattlEye is missing, CHERNO says so and can install it for you.

Version 0.9.22

  • Pick an accent colour, and start CHERNO with Windows.
  • Mod manager finds mods no saved server needs any more.
  • Keyboard control in the server list: arrows, Enter joins, Space favourites.
  • More reliable ping for favourites — three probes instead of one.

Version 0.9.21

  • Filters gathered into one dropdown instead of a wrapping chip row.
  • Right-click a server for join, favourite, share link and map.
  • Table columns no longer collide on narrow windows.

Version 0.9.20

  • Check button beside Join verifies every mod of a server.
  • Use your own image as the background — PNG, JPG, WEBP or GIF.
  • Update a single mod, or add one by Workshop link.

Version 0.9.19

  • Fixed the BattlEye kick shortly after joining.
